Monday?
Something I am really enjoying about my new life over here is not having to pay bills and earn money. I saved enough money to cover all my bills for the next year and my dad is cutting all the checks and sending the bills out. Yep, I have my own accountant. It's great. Thanks dad!
I've started to learn dutch. Whenever I try to say something in dutch all the dutch people crack up, and then I start laughing so it's a pretty fun process right now.
I think I am going to be a cleaning supervisor at the hostel. My manager mentioned it to me my first day of work, and I have been praying about it since then. Today a few people told me out of the blue that I should be a cleaning supervisor and that it would be the perfect position for me. The job is emotionally stressfull. As the cleaning supervisor you oversee the cleaning staff, so you are a "boss" to them. The staff (at any different time) is made up of refugees, people seeking assylum, and the like. They all come with their own set of issues. The cleaning supervisor is also in charge of hiring the cleaning staff. This comes down to giving a person a place to sleep and eat, or sending them to the streets of Amsterdam. Our cleaners can work for us for 4 weeks and they get free room and board for their service. They also attend "cleaner time" which is a staff led Bible study once a day. It will be a challenge, but with all challenges come growth.
This week I am leading a "cleaner time" and a Bible discussion for our guests. I'm excited about these opportunities.
Last night I went to Zolder 50 (church). I went on a mission trip to Zolder 50 a year and a half ago, and last night I got to see all of the church planters again. For those of you that went on the mission trip, Sam, Patricia, Linda, Eric, Eva, Todd?, and even Joe Dunn were there and they are all doing very well.
Have a good day! Mine is almost over!

melissa!!!! it's so good to hear that your first days in amsterdam are going well. I will definitely continue to keep you in prayer that God will reveal his truth to you and through you on controversial issues, and of course that a suitable climbing partner will be provided. (I just got an awesome Mammut chalkbag that i can't wait to use). Miss you here in mo'town and look forward to reading further entries (this is my first venture into a weblog...very handy!). I'm so excited that God has led you to Amsterdam, i know he will use you in amazing ways. You did not choose Him, but He chose you (john 15:16) so even if times come when you feel inadequate, rest in knowing that God chose you! Billy is talking about bringing a group to amsterdam in november, i hope it happens and that i'll be able to come. love ya! greta
Thanks for the encouragement Greta! I am also excited about your new Mammut chalkbag. I still haven't tried out my new harness. Hopefully I won't have to wait much longer. Good news...there is a climbing gym that has a "climb inn" every Sun night for people to climb together so they can find a partner. Of course I'll be going this Sun.
Yeah, things are good. I'm always smiling. Having lots of fun. It looks like I may be staying here for a year instead of 11 months. We'll see.
Love you!
